SIGN OF THE SUN Token Pendant
The Trader's Token was a form of payment in the UK, created by individual shopkeepers when small coinage was in short supply at the Mint. The coins were issued and spent with the shop in question.
They were popular between the 1650's - 1750's. Each included a naive 'folk' style depiction of the wares or badge of the shop on one side along side a simple address. On the other side were the initial's of the shopkeeper, his wife and sometimes a year date.

I wanted to create my own version of the token in homage. I love their naive look and irregular design and I also wanted to capture the look and feel of a traditional 'hammered' coin, with it's unique hand struck look.
Each SIGN OF THE SUN token has been hand made and finished by me from a wax original. The same mould is used to create each piece but due to the hand made nature of the design each will be slightly different and therefore unique to you.
One side reads 'IN HALF MOON LANE, 'S.R.' and the other 'AT THE SIGN OF THE' with a naive depiction of a full sun.
These pendants each have a hand made bail attached to the piece, ready to hand from your favourite chain.
Each measure approx 2cm x 2cm with a total length of 2.8cm inc attached bail.
Listings are for 9ct gold, sterling silver and 18ct gold plated bronze.
All metals are made to order, so please expect an approx 4-6 week wait from order to posting out.
