THAMESIS 9ct Gold + Natural Garnet Flower Ring
The THAMESIS flower ring is inspired by the natural garnets sometimes found on the Thames foreshore.
The mystery of the 'Thames garnets' has fascinated me since I started Mudlarking.
Why are they there? What was their original purpose? Some say they had industrial/abrasive purposes, destined for factories on the Thames. Some think bags of the stones were cut to steal the gems as they were unloaded from river barges.
Note* You must have a valid license to search the Thames foreshore. Contact the PLA for information on permits.
Each garnet is classed as 'rough' and is uncut by human hands. They maintain their natural structure (a naturally crystallised form called cubic system ie dodecahedra). Inclusions may be visible in the stones. They are set as I find them on the foreshore.
The garnets are a mix of dark red to very dark red in colour when held to the light. I believe they are Almandine garnets, which come originally from modern day Austria.
Each THAMESIS flower ring is hand made from 9ct gold from a wax original and includes traces of fingerprints and the making process.
The central garnet is mounted with four gold prongs and sits sturdily into the flower.
Each ring is fully hallmarks by the Assay Office in London.
Each THAMESIS ring is made to order, so please contact me to discuss your size when ordering.
